Well no posts for almost 10 months, i would blame my laziness for that.
In between i read alot of light novels but one book that took me to thinking about life was " A Mission In Kashmir" by Andrew Whitehead. A brilliant book. It is no story but compilation of what happened in Kashmir. He has tried to clear the confusion that has surrounded the Kashmir issue. The facts about Kashmir and Jammu before the problem cropped up.
Being an outsider, my idea about the issue was blur. All i knew there is a problem between the India and Pakistan over who wants the piece of Kashmir. But honestly there is more to it. The weakness of the ruler, King Hari Singh, is the reason. Eventhough he was weak but he had savoured the dream to rule Jammu and Kashmir as a country. When he realized that his unjust rule has created a strong resentment among the Kashmiri muslims, he ran with his bag and baggage from Kashmir to jammu ( hindu region) and resorted to India's assistance thus acceding to india.
His rule created alot of damage to Hindu Muslim unity and lay the foundation of very deep rooted hatred for hindus. When the muslims from NWFP of pakistan came to India, the Kashmiri Muslims welcomed the invaders. Honestly, these invaders were sent to India only to plunder and were promised by their leaders that the loot amount is theirs. The pathans who made way to Kashmir belived that Kashmir was a land flowing with milk and honey. They came on the pretext of liberating oppressed Muslim brethren but actually they intended to loot Kashmir.
Our military forces made way to Kashmir on civilian airlines after accession. The records are unclear about this episode. There are evidences that military troops were sent first and then the accession was signed. There is mystery to this issue.
After the ceasefire, the issue has become very complex. It was promised that the fate of Kashmir would be decided following a plebiscite. India wanted to conduct this when peace prevails in the state but Pakistan kept on prompting India to conduct it as soon as possible. The issue has been dragged on for such a longtime and with time it has acquired alot of misunderstandings and sufferings, thus the issue has become unsolvable. And the sufferings would continue....
